All About Stock Investing for Financial Freedom
There are a lot of ways to invest in your future, and for retirement—stock investing is just one of them, but it’s something we’ve been studying for over 50 years. If you want to get started in stock investing, start by downloading our FREE report, 5 Tips for Successful Investing.
Next, decide what avenue you might be interested in when it comes to investing in stocks. Do you want to invest aggressively and go after growth stocks, or are you looking to invest for the long term (our personal preference) and go after value stocks? Maybe you want to get into real estate investing, or perhaps you want kickbacks and decide dividend investing is for you.
Whatever you choose, we recommend creating a diversified portfolio when you decide to get into stock investing, which means spacing your investments out among the sectors, not just buying up all the tech stocks like Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOGL), or only blue chip stocks like Walmart (WMT) or Disney (DIS).
How diverse should your portfolio be? Very. If you invest in only a few stocks, then one bad stock can ruin your day and jeopardize your gains.
In the articles below, we’ll share how many stocks our analysts recommend you should own at a minimum, and a maximum—if you have the time to adequately keep up to date on each and every stock.
In terms of how much you should invest, there are no rules when it comes to minimum amounts to invest in stocks or even related investments like bonds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) or mutual funds. Investing in stocks and bonds allows you to tailor-make your portfolio to meet your objectives. ETFs and mutual funds provide diversification without investing in a lot of individual securities. Bottom line: Only invest what you can comfortably invest.
